UNDERSTANDING BUHARI‘s MENTALITY It has been reported that President Buhari, at the Commonwealth meeting, has described Nigerian youths as lazy, and that most of them didn’t go to school but just believe that Nigeria is an oil-rich country that should take care of them – or something to that effect. Many people have expressed surprise at this position of the President, knowing fully well how, everyday, thousands upon thousands, nay, millions, all around the country, at about 2.00 p.m. every day, Monday to Friday, our streets are taken over by variously uniformed school children, both, nursery, primary and secondary, trooping out of their schools to go home after the day’s classes. In fact, in a place like Ondo State, there used to be this saying that “education is our industry.” Same in several places around the country. We all attest to how more than a million candidates, each year, sit for the JAMB exams, and how (I don’t know how many they are now) there are so many universities...
